Settling in
We say hello, show your child the chair and the sunglasses they can wear, and let them look around so nothing feels like a surprise. A favourite toy is welcome, and there's no rush to start.
From toddlerhood to the late teens, your child's teeth, gums and bite are always changing. A regular check-up and clean at our Gisborne Road clinic lets us keep an eye on all of it while things are still simple — calmly, and at your child's pace.
Childhood is a busy time for a mouth. Baby teeth come and go, adult teeth arrive, the jaw keeps growing and habits settle in. Much of it goes smoothly on its own.
Regular visits help us spot early signs of decay, gum irritation or crowding while they're smaller and simpler to manage. Just as usefully, your child learns that the dentist is a calm, ordinary part of the year rather than somewhere you only go when something hurts.
How often should my child have a check-up?
Most children do well with a check-up every six months. Some need to come more often, depending on how their teeth are developing and their risk of decay, and your dentist will suggest a schedule that suits your child.
Six months is a long time in a small mouth. New teeth appear, others loosen, and routines settle or slip. Regular visits mean we meet those changes on easy, ordinary days — rather than for the first time when someone is already sore and worried.
Because the clean and the check-up do different jobs. The clean keeps teeth tidy; the check-up looks at how everything is developing — and that part needs a dentist.
If your child hasn’t been to see us before, the first visit page explains how we start.
A gentle clean removes the soft plaque and harder build-up a toothbrush can miss, then polishes the teeth smooth. If it suits your child, we may apply fluoride to help protect young enamel.
We check the teeth, gums and jaw, watch baby teeth making way for adult ones, look for early signs of decay, and see how the bite is developing. Then we chat with you about brushing, snacks, or habits like thumb-sucking if they come up.
We let your child settle in, check their teeth, gums and bite, give everything a gentle clean, and finish with a quick chat with you about what we saw. No surprises and no scary words — here's each step.

We say hello, show your child the chair and the sunglasses they can wear, and let them look around so nothing feels like a surprise. A favourite toy is welcome, and there's no rush to start.

We count the teeth, check how the bite and new teeth are coming along, and polish everything — with fluoride if it's right for your child. We explain each step in plain words and move at your child's pace.

Before you leave, we tell you what we saw, anything to keep an eye on, and a few simple tips for brushing and snacks at home. No jargon — just a clear picture and what, if anything, comes next.
Usually about 30 to 45 minutes, in one visit. If your child is having a wobbly day, we slow right down or stop — there's no script we have to finish.
Led by Principal Dentist Dr Rachna Yadav, our Bacchus Marsh team of Dr Amolak Deep, Dr Ankita Morjaria and Dr Christian Eskander sees children of all ages as part of everyday family dentistry.
We keep children's visits gentle and paced for them, never rushed. If today isn't the day for the polish, that's completely okay.
Seeing familiar faces visit after visit helps the chair stop feeling strange. Familiarity does a lot of the reassuring for us.
We're open Monday to Saturday, 9 am to 5 pm, so there are appointment times outside the school week. Bring the whole crew.
A child who sees the dentist as just another ordinary appointment.
Years from now, no single clean will be the thing that mattered. It'll be that your child learned to brush without a battle, felt comfortable in the chair, and never picked up the dread so many adults carry from one rough visit as a kid.
What a visit costs depends on your child's age and what they need on the day, and we'll always tell you before we begin. Many children are eligible for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS), which covers basic care such as check-ups and cleans up to $1,158 over two calendar years, or $1,132 if your child's two-year period began in 2025 (Services Australia's amounts, from its page last updated 15 April 2026). Ask us and we'll check whether your child qualifies.
CDBS eligibility is decided by Services Australia, not by the clinic. Benefit amounts and conditions are set by the Australian Government and may change — we'll confirm current details with you.
Children's check-ups and cleans are at our Bacchus Marsh clinic, open Monday to Saturday. Book online, give us a call, or read about a first visit before you decide.
