Health funds

Private health funds welcome here

Magical Smiles Bacchus Marsh accepts most private health funds, with on-the-spot HICAPS claims. Your cover and benefit amounts are set by your fund and policy.

Using your health fund

Bring your membership card and member number to your appointment. We can process a claim using the relevant item numbers and treatment codes where your fund supports it. You pay any gap between the treatment fee and your fund benefit.

We claim through HICAPS, which says it partners with 100% of Australian private health insurers (checked 29 September 2026). Being able to claim on the spot does not change what your policy pays.

What affects your benefit

Dental visits are usually claimed on general treatment cover, also called extras or ancillary cover. The Australian Government's privatehealth.gov.au describes it as cover for treatment outside hospital, such as dental, optical and physiotherapy, and not every policy covers every service. The points below summarise its guidance, checked on 29 September 2026.

Medicare and children's dental

Medicare does not generally cover dental treatment outside hospital, although privatehealth.gov.au notes that many of those services can be covered by private health insurance. Children are different: under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule, eligible children can claim up to $1,158 over two calendar years, or $1,132 if their two-year period began in 2025, according to Services Australia (page updated 15 April 2026).

Our bulk-billed children's dental care page explains how we check eligibility at the first visit.

Confirm your cover

Contact your health fund before treatment to confirm cover, limits and waiting periods, and how much of your annual limit is left. Your policy's Private Health Information Statement also shows what it includes. Magical Smiles can provide item numbers and treatment codes, but does not determine fund approval or benefit amounts.

Fees vary according to individual needs and the treatment provided. Ask the practice for a personalised written quote before deciding.

For other ways to approach the cost, read our payment options overview. The separate humm page explains that option and the terms to check before choosing it.

Common questions

Do you accept my health fund? We accept most private health funds and claim through HICAPS, which says it partners with 100% of Australian private health insurers. Your benefit depends on your fund, level of cover, annual limits and waiting periods.

Can I claim on the spot in Bacchus Marsh? Yes. Our HICAPS terminal lets you claim your health fund benefit at reception after your appointment, so you only pay any gap.

How long are waiting periods for dental? Each insurer sets its own extras waiting periods. privatehealth.gov.au says they generally run from two to six months for general dental and up to 12 months or more for major items such as orthodontics. Your fund can confirm yours.

Does Medicare cover dental treatment? Medicare does not generally cover dental treatment outside hospital. Under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule, eligible children can claim up to $1,158 over two calendar years, or $1,132 if their two-year period began in 2025.

What should I bring to claim? Bring your health fund card and member number. We can give you item numbers so you can check your cover with your fund before treatment.
