Metal braces in Bacchus Marsh
Traditional metal braces use small stainless-steel brackets and an archwire to guide teeth into place. At Magical Smiles Bacchus Marsh they start from $4,500 per arch and are one of three brace options we offer.
How do metal braces work?
A small stainless-steel bracket is bonded to each tooth with dental adhesive, and an archwire runs through the brackets as a guide. Small elastic bands hold the wire in place. The braces apply light, steady pressure, and the bone around each root gradually remodels so the tooth can move.
At regular visits to our Gisborne Road clinic we adjust the wire tension and change the bands. According to healthdirect, routine appointments may be every 4 to 12 weeks once treatment begins (page reviewed November 2024). The clinic has onsite parking and is open Monday to Saturday, which helps when appointments need to fit around school and work.
What can metal braces help with?
Metal braces can help with crooked or crowded teeth, gaps, and bite problems such as overbites, underbites and crossbites. They suit a wide range of ages, provided the teeth and gums are healthy. Treatment time depends on how complex the case is, your age and how closely the care instructions are followed. Younger patients can see teeth move faster because their bone is still developing.
Living with metal braces
Brushing and flossing take more care with brackets and wires, so we show you how to clean around them. Hard, sticky and chewy foods can damage brackets, and you'll get a list of foods to limit. For sport, a custom-fitted mouthguard protects both your braces and your mouth. If a bracket comes loose or something feels uncomfortable, call the clinic on (03) 8001 7008.
When treatment finishes, the brackets come off, your teeth get a thorough clean and you move to a retainer. Prefer something removable? Angel Aligners are one of the clear aligner alternatives.
Common questions
How much do metal braces cost in Bacchus Marsh?
Metal braces at Magical Smiles Bacchus Marsh start from $4,500 per arch. The final cost depends on how complex your case is, how long treatment runs and whether anything is needed first, such as an extraction. You receive a detailed written quote before treatment starts.
Can I play sport with metal braces?
Yes. You can keep playing sport with braces, but a custom-fitted mouthguard is important, especially for contact sports, to protect both your braces and your mouth. We can advise on the right mouthguard for your sport.
Do metal braces change the shape of your face?
Braces move teeth within the jawbone rather than changing facial structure. Significant facial changes are uncommon, although correcting a prominent overbite can change how the lips sit when the mouth is closed. We explain what to expect for your specific plan.
What happens after my braces come off?
You move to a retention phase. You receive a retainer to wear as directed, your teeth get a thorough clean, and follow-up check-ups help catch any shifting early. Your teeth may feel a little sensitive at first, which usually settles within a few days.

Orthodontics & alignment.
The right option depends on the position of your teeth, your bite and what you're hoping for. Results, timelines and suitability vary between individuals.
